Reindeer, also known as Caribou in North America, are increasingly under threat. It is as a result important to better understand this animal, so important in Norse, Sami, and generally Nordic culture. This course reviews everything you need to know about another significant animal in Norse and Sami culture.

The course covers everything you should know about reindeer/caribou, from a scientific perspective (undergraduate/graduate/doctoral level). So yeah, it is dry, but thorough, factual, and objective.

And for those of you with a PAWGI cert, this course also qualifies for the PAWGI Wildlife specialization (Bears).

The Hreindýri course is entirely completed online at your own pace. For our bros deployed in countries with unreliable internet access, we can also send all materials covered in the course on a USB key.

This course is organized in 6 sections: Reindeer History & TraditionsHuman Impact on Reindeer, Reindeer Status & ConservationReindeer Biology, Range, and HabitatReindeer Behavior, and Reindeer Observation.
